President Goodluck  Jona­than has described the death of the renowned Nigerian businessman and religious leader, Alhaji Abdul-Azeez Arisekola-Alao, as shocking and sad.

Colon cancer is said to be the cause of the death of Chief Arisekola Alao, according to a family source that spoke to Sahara Reporters.

The source also stated that the remains of the deceased businessman were being conveyed to Nigeria for burial as early as tomorrow in keeping with Muslim rites.

Born in 1945, he started out as a trader in his youth and grew into a businessman with investments in real estate, auto sales, news media, and flourmills.

He was married and survived by children and grandchildren.
Aare Musulumi of Yorubaland, Arisekola Alao, has died today in London.

An Ibadan-based religious leader, Alhaji Wahab Lawal, 92, is dead. He died at his residence at Ring Road, Ibadan, following a long battle with a protracted illness.

Confirming the death of the prominent religious leader, the Chairman of the Muslim Community of Oyo State, Alhaji Ishaq Sanni, confirmed the death to newsmen in Ibadan.

He said the late Lawal was a respected Islamic leader endowed with wisdom. He described him as a humble man, who devoted his life to the service of God and humanity.

Sanni said that the community would miss Lawal’s philanthropy.

Islamic clerics and scholars offered prayers on the dead (Janazah) before Lawal was buried at the back of a mosque he donated to the community.

Speaking during a prayer session for the repose of the soul of the deceased, Sheikh Lukman Busari described Lawal as a father of all, whose demise would be missed by the entire community.

Busari advised other leaders to emulate Lawal’s lifestyle and rededicate themselves to the service of Allah and humanity.
Iyetade, the 48-year old daughter of Prof. Wole Soyinka, winner of the 1986 Nobel Prize in literature, has died at the University College Hospital Ibadan where she was receiving treatment for an undisclosed ailment.

Ademola Rasak, former chairman of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Osun state chapter has died today (Thursday) at the University College Hospital in Ibadan, he was 57 years old.
