Nigerian
Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) has confirmed that Overland Airways aircraft
which left Ibadan for Abuja on Monday abandoned the journey around Minna, Niger
state.
The agency said the aircraft detoured to Lagos for emergency landing
after its windshield got broken mid-air.
According
to media report, the pilot of the domestic flight 1170 while airborne, noticed
some cracks on the windshield and subsequently requested to divert the aircraft
to Lagos to put the passengers on another aircraft.
It
got airborne around 7.42am, changed course and landed in Lagos at 9.43am with
all 42 passengers and six crew members onboard.
Supo
Atobatele, general manager, Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) said: “There
is no cause for alarm as the diversion was precautionary and this conforms with
basic safety norms of the industry.”
Several months ago, the airline was in the middle of a similar controversy when its engines allegedly caught fire. It however denied the report on its official website.
