While the incumbent administration in Oyo state is being credited with transformation of the state, especially Ibadan, many residents in the city believe the Sen. Abiola Ajimobi-led administration in the state had neglected them. This is the focus of a new series "Ibadan: The Neglected Ones" that would premier on Monday on IBPulse.com.
Every Monday, "Ibadan: The Neglected Ones" would focus on major issues in the city that the government is not paying attention to. With accompanying pictures and interviews with people that are directly affected, it would amplify the voices of residents that had come to terms with the inability of the government involved to come to their aid.
"This is not about making the government or the government to look bad; its aim is to let people know the current state of infrastructures, people, communities and other related issues. We promote what is right, we also want everyone to know what is wrong so that collectively we could make things right," said Paul Adepoju, the writer of the series.
"This is personally special for me because even though I've visited (and still visit) several other cities within and outside Nigeria, Ibadan remains close to my heart and I want people to know where we've been, where we are and where we could be.These start my giving voice to the voiceless."
On Monday, the focus is on the spare parts market that is almost directly opposite the governor's official residence at Agodi.
"I've been going to the market since I was young. What you are going to read and see will utterly shock everyone. I spoke to 2 serving commissioners on the market, you would understand why people in the market are among the neglected ones we are talking about," Paul said.
