Labour Party has inaugurated its secretariat in Oyo state. The event was attended by the governor of Ondo state, Olusegun Mimiko and other party leaders and members.
The party has been growing in Oyo state following the decampment of several members of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
Speaking on why they left APC, Honourable Kazeem Adedeji, the state Publicity Secretary of the Labour Party (LP) in Oyo state said they could not fold arms and watch people trample upon their valued and cherished ideals in the name of political expediency.
He said: "We tried to change what we considered wrong within the party, but we
were taken for rebels, and so many of us have suffered so much
persecution for our political beliefs. In the light of what happened and
is still happening, we felt the only way is for us to seek another
platform that is progressive-oriented too, so as to show the people of
Oyo State and indeed Nigerians that progressivism is not the exclusive
preserve of any political party. It is an ideology and it has only found
a new body in the Labour Party in the state."
