What would have resulted into a major air disaster was averted on
Friday as one of the engines of an Ibadan-bound plane from Abuja
allegedly caught fire few minutes before takeoff.
A Passenger had raised the alarm over the development before the Pilots quickly opened the emergency exit to evacuate all passengers on board. No casualty was recorded in the incident.
A statement issued by the office of the Director of Aerodrome and
Airspace Standards said the incident happened just as the plane made to
takeoff. The statement further disclosed that a passenger on board
raised the alarm that there was a fire, throwing other passengers aboard
the plane into heavy confusion before the emergency exit door was
opened for their evacuation.
The Nigerian Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA) has however said in a statement that it regretted the ugly incident which occurred on Friday, but commended the Pilots for their quick response to the alarm raised by one of the passengers.
