Ace broadcaster and popular radio show host, Tony Rowland Awobode (Don T) has revealed why he decided to leave the Broadcasting Corporation of Oyo State (BCOS) for Splash FM 105.5 Ibadan.
In an exclusive interview with IBPulse.com, Don T said he didn't decide to leave the state-owned radio station but was due to the resilience and persistence of individuals who believe he could change the face of entertainment in Ibadan using Splash FM as the platform.
"I didn’t decide, people
introduced me to the new stations. I put in an effort and I was saddled with
the responsibility of changing the face of entertainment in Ibadan and I think
I did," Don T told IBPulse.com.
According to him, he had more options outside the state apart from Splash FM.
He said: "It wasn’t just about moving to
Splash. At that time, I had offers from 2 radio stations, both based on merit. The
first day I went there they said 'start'"
He added that there is a reason why he is in Ibadan, including his family and education thus compelling him to plan around the city.
"I’m in Ibadan because there is a
reason, not because I don’t have better options," he said. He added: "One of the jobs I got was to move
to Abuja immediately. But I had some things I was doing in Ibadan – family and
school. Everything had to be structured around Ibadan. So the first private
radio station came to Ibadan and it became an obvious choice."
IBPulse.com also asked why he is yet to join Beat FM as many of his fans expected would happen.
He said: "I’ve become something bigger. Beat FM may just put me on air on the
morning, afternoon or evening shift. I’m more than that now. I’m now more about
creating contents because I now have loads of experience.
"I had to go back to
school. I have a diploma and degree in mass communication so I’ve gotten bigger
than just talking on radio. I actually checked with Beat but I am not
interested in just talking on radio."
